About These GPA Calculators

Universities do not all use the same grade points. An A− is 3.7 at Virginia Tech and KU, 3.667 at Northeastern and 3.75 at Pitt, and law school services recalculate your GPA on their own scales. Each calculator here uses the official values for its school, so your semester or cumulative GPA matches what the registrar reports.

Add each course’s credit hours and letter grade, and the calculator multiplies credits by grade points, adds the quality points, and divides by total credits. Applying to law school? The LSAC GPA calculator converts your transcript to the CAS 4.33 scale that U.S. law schools see.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply each course’s credit hours by the grade points for your letter grade to get quality points, add them up, and divide by the total credit hours. Pass/fail and withdrawn courses usually do not count.

Why does my GPA differ between calculators?

Schools assign different points to plus and minus grades, and some give an A+ more than 4.0. A generic 4.0 calculator can be off by a few hundredths, so use the calculator for your own school.

What is the difference between semester and cumulative GPA?

Semester GPA covers one term’s courses. Cumulative GPA covers every graded course you have taken at the school, weighted by credit hours.
